R.W. John Hickey of Star Lodge gave the invocation and blessing prior to dinner.

President William B. Garrett Jr. PM called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. followed by the

Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

President William B. Garrett Jr. then proceeded with the regular order of business. All members and guests were welcomed. There were four first time visitors joining us. The Officers of Dunedin Lodge

were introduced and thanked for providing the meeting place and dinner. The J.W. and his kitchen

help, who prepared our fine meal, was then introduced and thanked with a round of applause.

It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the previous meeting minutes be accepted as printed and distributed.

Treasurer’s Report:

beginning balance: $ 8413.18 Ending balance: $ 7562.86, with $1500.00 reserved for our Scholarship Fund. It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the Treasurer’s report be accepted as read.

Jim Clouser, Secretary, read several communications from The Sun Coast Master’s and Warden’s Association to; City of St Petersburg Fire Station No. 4 for the Fire Truck; Worshipful James Park of District 33; The Orders of the Eastern Star:Largo Assembly # 86 Rainbow for Girls; Selama Grotto, thanking each organization for participating in the Masonic Home Employees’ Christmas Party. One communication from The Grand Master’s Representative, George Aladro, Thanking the Association for our compassion to the Residents of the Masonic Home and for our donations to the Grand Masters’ Charity and to the First Ladies’ Project.

Old Business:

The Hot Gavel is at Tarpon Lodge. The Traveling Gavel is at Pinellas Daylight Lodge.

P.M. Bob Matheson reported on the G.I. Care package shipment and read two e-mails thanking us for the items sent.

President Garrett Jr. Reported on the Bay Pines Party, in the absence of the MSA Representative R.W. Danny Robinson, and the Masonic Home Party. He also presented a framed certificate from the Grand Master for the Officers attending a Masonic Home Board Meeting.

V.P. W:. Derryl O’Neal reported on the Twin Towers Memorial Bricks.

President Garrett Jr. Presented several Brothers with framed certificates of appreciation for their assistance to him this past year.

V.P. W:. Derryl thanked brother Johney Walker for his assistance with the golf tournament.

 In concluding Old Business, President Garrett Jr. gave his closing remarks which was followed by Congratulations and a Standing round of applause.

New Business:

The Associations’ 2009 Officers were installed as follows; W. Derryl O’Neal, President; W. David Webster, Vice President; R.W. David Henderson, Treasurer; and R.W. James Clouser, Secretary.

R. W. Rick Hoover expressed dissatisfaction that Dunedin Lodge was allowed to pick up the Traveling Gavel from Star Lodge without being at the Lodge opening, before being put "At Ease" for the open Installation of Officers for 2009. This discussion was concurred by President O’Neal and disciplinary measures would be considered.

President O’Neal spoke about the website and his calendar of events. Pilgrimage Day was discussed and flyers were passed out. Everyone’s assistance was requested for this event.

Tim Bryce will again be in charge of the Trap Shoot in Odessa on Saturday, April 11, 2009, with all proceeds going to the Associations Scholarship Fund. Flyers for this event were passed out to all Lodges in attendance.

The Two Minute Drill was then held with various announcements from the Lodges present.

The next Masters & Wardens meeting will be held on March 18, 2009 at St. Petersburg Lodge in St. Petersburg. Dinner at 6:30 pm and meeting at 7:30 pm. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

were introduced and thanked for providing the meeting place and dinner.  The J.W. and his kitchen

Chief, Voluntary Service for our donation to the Bay Pines Christmas Fund.

 

Old Business: 

The Hot Gavel is at Sutherland Lodge.  The Traveling Gavel is at Nitram Lodge. 

W:. David Woolley gave a report of the audit committee which found the checkbook and accounting practices of our Association to be in order. A copy of his report is on file with the Secretary.

President Derryl O’Neal reported on the Twin Towers Memorial Bricks, and passed around pictures of the bricks already in place.

P.M. Tim Bryce reported on the 8th Annual Trap Shoot to be held on April 11, 2009. He had flyers available. He asked for participants to let him know so he would have some idea of how many to have

many will attend so he can tell the range how many to plan for.  Cost is $ 55.00. Registration is at 9:00 A.M.  Competition starts at 10:00 A.M.

W:. David Webster reported on the D.D.G.M.’s Roast to be held on Friday May 1, 2009. Place has yet to be determined. He would like this to be for Districts 20 & 21. Cost will be approx. $20.00 to $25.00.

Depending on where the event will be held.


 

Our 8th Annual Golf Tournament location and date have not been determined as yet. More information will follow at our next meeting.

R:. W:. Ron Newton will need  much help with the Pilgrimage Day at the Masonic Home on Saturday March 21st.   He spoke about all the events which will be part of this day. Gulf Beach Lodge has already repainted pots for planting and has potted plants in the dining room. W:. Clinker will have  Child I.D. Program available. Nitram Lodge will be frying fish with any donations going to the Home. The Masonic Home Guild will be selling all water and

 

 

drinks with all the proceed going to the Masonic Home as well. More activities will be a car show, motorcycle show. As well as help moving furniture, (tables & chairs), help will be needed parking vehicles. All workers are to wear red shirts.

 

New Business:

A representative from the Red Cross will make a presentation at our next meeting. Topics to include emergency funding and emergency shelters.

R:. H:. Howard Knapp encouraged all Lodges to encourage more brothers to learn the Lectures for the Degrees as we have a shortage of Lecturers in our two Districts. He will be having two more District Schools of Instruction at Gulf Beach Lodge on April 7th and May 12.  The Instruction on April 7th will exemplify the E.A. Degree. A Zone School of Instruction will be Saturday March 21st. At the Scottish Rite Center in Tampa.              

R:.W:.  Rick Hoover   announced   the Grand Lodge Legislative Meeting will be at Fellowship Lodge again this year on April14th.

President Derryl O’Neal, P.M. called the meeting to order at 7:30  p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance

to the Flag.                                                                                                         

 

President O’Neal proceeded with the regular order of business.  All members and guests were welcomed.

There were seven first time visitors joining us. Also attending were two guest speakers from The Red Cross.

The Worshipful Master, Ray Vance, Officers, and members of Pearl of the West were introduced and thanked

for providing the meeting place and dinner.  The J.W. and his kitchen help, who prepared our fine meal, was

then introduced and thanked with a round of applause.

 

It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the previous meeting minutes be accepted as printed and distributed.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  (given by W. Billy Garrett Jr., in the absence of treasurer R.W. David Henderson)

Beginning balance: $ 7644.21 Ending balance: $ 8776.21, with $2700.00 reserved for our Scholarship Fund.  It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the Treasurer’s report be accepted as read. W. Garrett Jr. made a motion that $ 3500.00 be advanced to the incoming DDGM’s for the Grand Master’s Official Visit to our Districts, which will be on July 17, 2009 at the Masonic Home. The motion was seconded and passed. This money will be repaid to the Association after member assessment of the Lodges in our Districts. 

 

At this point, W. President O’Neal introduced our guests from The Red Cross, who spoke about the association and

Being prepared for any disaster.  Janet McGuire is the Manager of Disaster Services in Pasco County and spoke about having a plan of action for evacuation and having items ready to evacuate if the need arises. Lise M. Amundrud is the Financial Development Officer of the Tampa Bay Chapter in Clearwater and also spoke about the necessity of having a plan. Ms. Amundrud also mentioned the International Tracing Service program they utilize where The Red Cross can be activated anywhere in the country within 24 hours of any disaster. These ladies expressed thanks to Gulf Beach Lodge for their participation with and support of The Red Cross. A round of applause was given to these ladies for their presentation.

Sickness and Distress: It was reported that our Treasurer, R.W. David Henderson, has had a knee replacement and is at home recovering. Let’s keep all distressed worthy brothers in our thoughts and prayers.

 

R.W. Jim Clouser,  Secretary, read one communication from The Administrator of The Masonic Home,  Mrs Lisa Tsotsos ,thanking us for our assistance with Pilgrimage Day and for all our Association does for all the residents of our Masonic Home.

W:. Billy Garrett Jr. gave the report of the Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship was awarded to Miss Heather Lyn McShane of Boca Ciega High School. Miss McShane is the daughter of the late Mathew McShane , who was Senior Warden of Nitram Lodge and passed away suddenly in 2004. Runner-up was Mr. Brent Aaron Bertrand of River Ridge High School. The presentation to Miss McShane was made by President W. Derryl O’Neal on May 13th at Boca Ciega  High School’s Awards Program. Our congratulations go out to all who submitted applications for our Scholarship Award. This year we had 69 applications from area high school students. The Association wishes to extend our thanks for the committees’ diligence on reviewing all the applications and selecting a winner. From 69 applications from which to choose, this had to be a daunting task. Thank  you W. Tim Bryce for chairing this Committee and doing an outstanding job. W. Garrett Jr. made a motion, on W. Tim Bryce’s recommendation, to raise the Scholarship from $ 1000.00 to $ 1500.00 next year. This motion was seconded and passed unanimously

as the Association has sufficient funds for this endeavor.   

President O’Neal reported on the DDGM’s Roast held at Chili’s in Largo on May 1st. A good meal and great fellowship was had by all in attendance as well as some good jabs at our current DDGMs R.W. Jim Rocha and

R.W. Mark Fowler. Our incoming DDGMs were also honored.  They will be W. Chris Schlenker for District 20

and W. Ed Street for District 21.

R.W. Ron Newton reported on Pilgrimage Day at the Masonic Home and said how pleased the Grand Master was with the event. There were more show cars than before and 102 motorcycles.  The Deputy Grand Master was looking forward to next year’s event. R. W. Ron also mentioned the next First Lady’s project which is going to be “Installing closets in each of the resident’s rooms”.

Secretary Clouser gave a report on the 9th Annual Trap Shoot, held on April 11th, which raised $ 1100.00 to date with more money coming in. A final total will be reported at our next meeting by our Treasurer. The winners were: In Division I – Robert Eckland of Star Lodge; in Division II – Dan Barto of Nitram Lodge; in Division III – Andy Kotfaftis  of Gulf Beach Lodge. Lodge Champion was Gulf Beach Lodge. Congratulations to all the winners and to all who made this event our biggest Trap Shoot to date. We had a record number of 44 shooters!! Thank you to Tim Bryce for organizing this worthy event.


President O’Neal is inquiring into more Golf Courses to hold our 9th Annual Golf Tournament. More information will follow at our next meeting.

 

New Business:

Brother John Anthony of Gulf Beach Lodge is organizing a motorcycle ride to Soloman’s Castle east of Bradenton on June 6th. Gulf Beach Lodge will have its monthly breakfast, (the first Sunday of each month), preceding the ride.

A request for any Brother knowing any Lecture, Charge or any part in the 2nd Section of the Master Mason Degree

was  made as many Lodges are short handed in these areas and would appreciate knowing who is proficient in these areas and if you would be willing to assist these Lodges.

Sickness and Distress: It was reported that our W. Royal Eden of Nitram Lodge was in the hospital and not doing well. Also, a sojourning Brother from Chicago has passed to The Celestial Lodge on High and will need a Masonic service. Let’s keep all distressed worthy brothers and their families in our thoughts and prayers.

 

R.W. Jim Clouser,  Secretary, read two communications  from The Department of Veterans Affairs at Bay Pines Hospital thanking us for our donation and for all that we do for our veterans at the hospital.

 

Old Business:

W. Tim Long spoke about the 8-Ball Social which will be at the Crooked Cue, next to Mug’s & Jug’s at the apex of US 19 and 66th Street, on July 30 at 7:00 P.M. He invited all Brothers, Families and Friends to attend to play and/or

Just come out for the fellowship.  President O’Neal spoke on our upcoming golf tournament – no course has been agreed upon yet due to costs the courses want to charge us. He should have a course agreed upon by our next meeting.  R.W. Ed Street & R.W. Chris Schlenker reported on the Grand Master’s Official Visit which will be Friday night at the Masonic Home . They extended an invitation to all Master Masons and their wives. Table set-up will be Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. Help will be needed and anyone who can assist are asked to do so.

A motion was made, seconded and passed to present the Grand Master with An Honorary Membership to the SunCoast Master’s and Warden’s Association. A certificate and Membership card will be presented at his visit Friday night.  R.W. Ron Newton reported on the First Lady’s project. The closets will cost about $800 to $1000 per unit, so any and all donations are welcomed. A $50.00 donation was mad from an anonymous source, which was matched by a Brother. A motion was made, seconded and passed that the Association match this total. These checks will be presented at the visit Friday night on behalf of the SunCoast Master’s and Warden’s Association. 

 

 

New Business:

The motorcycle ride to Soloman’s Castle east of Bradenton was mentioned. The weather for the day was RAIN and boy did it. But that is part of riding motorcycles. A good time was had by all who participated and everyone returned home safe. This was the inaugural ride for the Suncoast Chapter of the Widow’s Sons Masonic motorcycle Club.

A request for any Brother wanting to learn the Lectures was made by R.W. Jim Rocha.  A meeting of interested Brothers will be announced via E-Mail.

Star Lodge Car Show – October 3rd

St. Petersburg Lodge will be having a Child I.D. Program in August. D.D.G.M. will make official visit in September.

Fort Clinch Civil War Outdoor Degree will be October 17th.   Any interested persons should contact W. Tim Bryce

    for more information and Hotel accommodations.            

Gulf Beach Lodge will be going to the Rays baseball game the last week of September.

Dunedin Lodge will be having 100 Masons Night August 17th. The D.D.G.M. will be making his official visit this       same night. October 31st will be a Halloween Shoot at the Antelope Club. 

Warden’s Workshop will be at the Masonic Home on August 15th. Registration is 7:00 A.M. The Workshop will be from 8:00 to 4:00. The Workshop is free. A charge for the printed notebook  is $25.00. Lunch will also be available in the cafeteria for a charge. All Master Masons are welcome to attend. 

 

The next Masters  &  Wardens meeting will be held on September 16, 2009 at Elmer O. Smith Lodge.

Dinner at 6:30 pm and meeting at 7:30 pm. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

R.H. Jim Clouser, Secretary, read commnications  from The Grand Secretary and from First Lady Rebba Goehrig  thanking us for our donations to the Grand Masters’ Charity and the First Lady’s project. Another communication from President W. Derryl O’Neal in regards to the Bay Pines Holiday Party. Gift wrapping will be on December 16, 2009at 8:00 A.M. in the Cobb Room. Gift distribution will be on December 21, 2009, assembling in the Cobb Room at 8:00 A.M.

 

Old Business: 

The Hot Gavel is at Clearwater Lodge.  The Traveling Gavel is also at Clearwater Lodge. 

President O’Neal reported on the 8th Annual Golf Tournament, which will be at Saint Andrews Links in Dunedin

on October 17, 2009. Cost is $ 65.00 per player. Holes may be sponsored for $ 50.00 for a non-prize hole or $ 75.00 for a prize hole. For Pre-registration players will receive a gift bag and a free T-Shirt if registered before Oct. 5th.    

As always extra help will be needed to watch the Prize Holes for award verification. Please contact Derryl O’Neal if you wish to help. W Tim Bryce reported on the First Annual Halloween Pistol Shoot to be held at the Wyoming Antelope Club on October 31st. Cost to participate is $ 30.00. Participates are to furnish own ammo. (Bring a minimum of 100 Rounds).  Past President Billy Garrett Jr. reported on the Masonic Home Employee Christmas Party Which will be on December 12, at 5:00 P.M. (Santa Clouser will be making an appearance sometime in the evening). W. Bob Matheson reported on the G.I. Care Package Program. He will supply a list of requested items to the Lodges. Please bring your items to be sent to the next meeting in November. R.W. Danny Robinson reported on the Bay Pines Holiday Party. Gift wrapping will be on December 16, in the Cobb Room @ 8:00 A.M. Gift distribution will be on December 21. Meet in the Cobb Room @ 8:00 A.M. before distribution. Donations and Volunteers are requested.

 

New Business:

W.Tim Bryce reported on the new publication just out titled “The Lost Symbol” by Dan Brown, and encouraged all to get a copy to read. R.W. Ron Newton reported on the First Lady’s  Project. The closets for the residents’ room s are going to cost $ 750.00 per unit with 104 units being required.

 

The Two Minute Drill was then held with various announcements from the Lodges present. Some announcements were:

St. Petersburg Lodge will be having a Child I.D. Program. Help is always welcome. Contact Lodge Officers for info.

Fort Clinch Civil War Outdoor Degree will be October 17th.   Any interested persons should contact W. Tim Bryce

for more information and Hotel accommodations.            

Gulf Beach Lodge will be going to the Rays baseball game on September 30th.

Dunedin Lodge will be having R.W. Richard Hoover as Guest Speaker at the Festive Board at Kally Kay’s Restaurant on September 28th.

 

The next Masters’& Wardens’ meeting will be held on November 18, 2009 at Tarpon Lodge in Tarpon Springs.

SunCoast Masters & Wardens Meeting

November  18, 2009

Dinner was served at 6:30 P.M.

 

President Derryl O’Neal, P.M. called the meeting to order at 7:30  p.m.. R.W. John Hickey , Chaplain of Star Lodge, gave the invocation,  followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.                                                                                                        

President O’Neal proceeded with the regular order of business.  All members and guests were welcomed.

There were five first time visitors joining us. All were from Tarpon Lodge.  Worshipful Yarbrough and Officers of

Tarpon Lodge were introduced and thanked for providing the meeting place. The J.W. and his kitchen

help, who prepared our fine meal, were then introduced and thanked with a round of applause.

 

It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the previous meeting minutes be accepted as printed and distributed.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  (R.W. David Henderson)

Beginning balance: $ 8111.73 Ending balance: $ 10307.15, with $2700.00 reserved for our Scholarship Fund.  It was regularly moved, seconded and passed that the Treasurer’s report be accepted as read and distributed.

 

Roll Call of Lodges: Vice President W. David Webster took roll call of the Lodges:  We had  11 Lodges and 38 Brothers present.  Star Lodge - 3; St. Petersburg Lodge - 5; Nitram Lodge - 1; Northside Lodge - 0; Elmer O. A partial total of $ 1585.75 was reported to date,      but with monies continuing to come in , a final total will be presented at the next meeting. W Tim Bryce reported that the First Annual Halloween Pistol Shoot made $ 411.00. Past President Billy Garrett Jr. reported on the Masonic Home Employee Christmas Party Which will be on December 12, at 5:00 P.M. (Santa Clouser will be making an appearance sometime in the evening). W. Garrett Jr. made a motion to give Debbie Neveitt $ 1000.00 to start to purchase Christmas gifts for the Masonic Home Employee’s Children, with the excess to be refunded to the Association. Motion was seconded  and passed with two votes against.  He also made a motion to reimburse Barbara Brenner $ 186.82 for items she has purchased for the party. Motion was seconded and passed.  W. Bob Matheson reported on the G.I. Care Package Program. He will collect all items brought after the meeting in the parking lot and load into his automobile. All items will be packaged for shipping by the end of November. R.W. Danny Robinson reported on the Bay Pines Holiday Party. Gift wrapping will be on December 16, in the Cobb Room @ 8:00 A.M. Gift distribution will be on December 21. Meet in the Cobb Room @ 8:00 A.M. before distribution. Donations and Volunteers are requested.

New Business:

W. Tim Long of St. Petersburg Lodge reported on several Child I.D. programs coming soon and would welcome anyone who would be interested in assisting. The locations would be the Weslyn Church in Pinellas Park; Central Academy; and the Seminole Library.

 

The Two Minute Drill was then held with various announcements from the Lodges present.

Brother Earl Ray Senior Warden of St. Petersburg Lodge, who is using the Hyperbaric Chamber  to assist him in recovering from a mild stroke, mentioned that the Lodges may want to consider mite box or other donations to this worthy cause.

W. Roger Webb, Chairman for Masonic Education reported he has given over 200 exams for Master Mason I, II, III. and Modules I, II, and III. (my Brothers, that is over 600 hours of exams, Congratulations Roger)

Dunedin Lodge will host a Roast for both D.D.G.M.’s on November 23, 2009 at the Dunedin Brewery at 7: 00 P.M..

 

The last order of business was the Election of Officers for 2010. A motion was made that W. David Webster advance to President, with R. W.’s Henderson and Clouser remaining as Treasurer and Secretary. Motion was seconded and passed. Balloting for the office of Vice President were opened. After nominations from the floor for W. Tim Long,  of St. Petersburg Lodge, (from W. David Webster), and R.W. Chris Schlenker, D.D.G.M. of District 20, (from W. Tim Bryce). Even after being informed that nominations from the floor were in contradiction to our By-Laws , and R.W. Chris Schlenker declining the nomination, a vote was taken with W. Tim Long being elected to Vice President. W. Tim said he would be happy to accept the office of Vice President.

 

 

The next meeting will be at Clearwater Lodge # 127, on January 20, 2010

Dinner at 6:30 pm and meeting at 7:30 pm. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
