This document applies to Master Masons seeking affiliation with Gulf Beach Lodge (GBL). (Note: In this document the description of the transmittal of a certificate of good standing between grand masonic jurisdictions is simplified. In many cases the document must pass through the grand secretaries of the two masonic jurisdictions involved.)

Dual Membership: Joining GBL and maintaining membership in mother Lodge in another grand masonic jurisdiction--but only from such jurisdictions that accept 'dual' memberships...some do not.
  •     Petitioner requests a 'certificate of good standing' from the Secretary of his mother Lodge. Upon receipt of said certificate he brings it to the Secretary and is presented with a Petition for Dual Membership (GL-608).
  •     When the Petition is completed he meets with the Petitions Committee to assure that the form is filled out completely.
  •     The Petition is then read at the next stated communication and held over 30 days for an investigation, after which it is balloted upon.
Full Affiliation:  Joining GBL as a full member and drops membership from other jurisdiction. There are two ways to do this.....

1st way (safest)
  •     Petitioner requests a 'certificate of good standing' from the Secretary of his mother Lodge. Upon receipt of said certificate he brings it to the Secretary and is presented with a Petition for Affiliation (GL-603).
  •     When the Petition is completed he meets with the Petitions Committee to assure that the form is filled out completely.
  •     The Petition is then read at the next stated communication and holds over 30 days for an investigation, after which it is balloted upon.
  •     If the ballot is clear his GL is notified and a request for a dimit is signed by him and mailed to his mother Lodge.
  •     Upon receipt of the returned dimit the brother is a full member.
2nd way (not so safe)
  •     The Petitioner requests a dimit from his mother Lodge and brings it to the Secretary.
  •     The Secretary presents him with a Petition for Affiliation (GL-606) which requires a dimit to be attached.
  •     When the Petition is completed he meets with the Petitions Committee to assure that the form is filled out completely.
  •     The Petition is then read at the next stated communication and held over 30 days for an investigation, after which it is balloted upon.
  •     If it is a clear ballot his GL is notified and he becomes a full member.
  •     The reason this is not so safe is because most dimits are good for no more than a year and if rejected at the ballot box he becomes a brother without a Lodge.
Plural Membership:  Joining GBL from another Lodge within the state of Florida.
  •     Petitioner requests a 'certificate of good standing' from the Secretary of his mother Lodge. Upon receipt of said certificate he brings it to the Secretary and is presented with a Petition for Plural Membership (GL-615).
  •     When the Petition is completed he meets with the Petitions Committee to assure that the form is filled out completely.
  •     The Petition is then read at the next stated communication and held over 30 days for an investigation, after which it is balloted upon.
  •     Upon a clear ballot his mother Lodge and GL are notified of Plural Membership.
Transfer of Membership: Transferring to GBL from another Lodge within the state of Florida.  There are two ways to do this.....

1st way (safest)
  •     Petitioner requests a 'certificate of good standing'  (GL-604) from the Secretary of his mother Lodge. Upon receipt of said certificate he brings it to the Secretary and is presented with a Petition for Affiliation by Transfer (GL-603).
  •     When the Petition is completed he meets with the Petitions Committee to assure that the form is filled out completely.
  •     The Petition is then read at the next stated communication and held over 30 days for an investigation, after which it is balloted upon.
  •     Upon a clear ballot his mother Lodge is sent a request for dimit, upon receipt of dimit the transfer is complete.
  •     If it is a clear ballot his mother lodge and GL are notified and he becomes a full member.
  •     The reason this is not so safe is because most dimits are good for no more than a year and if rejected at the ballot box he becomes a brother without a Lodge.
Time Frames:
  • Grand Lodge of Florida does not entertain any Affiliations (in this jurisdiction or outside of this jurisdiction) between October 1st and January 1st. The reason is the brother has Lodge dues coming due and if he fails to pay his dues in his mother Lodge and the year runs out before all the paper work is done he is no longer in good standing. If he pays his mother Lodge dues for the ensuing year, then he has thrown money away if he gets elected in before Jan 1st. It all deals with dues and good standing.
